Super-Besse
PROBLEM
Located at 1350m, on the southern slope of the Puy de Sancy (Auvergne), the resort of Super-Besse has recorded a snow deficit for several seasons. This deficit is particularly felt at the start of the season in the area reserved for beginners, which is made up of a blue run, a green run and a tobogganing area. With its very family clientele, the resort needs the snow cover of this area as soon as the station opens on December 15.
Based on the combination of surface tables and weather readings, taking into account a 15% melt, WeSnow’s calculations resulted in the need to produce a stock of 21,000 m2 of artificial snow.
SOLUTION WESNOW
WeSnow delivers to the Super-Besse ski resort nine WS70 snow guns with a production capacity of 47,000 m 3 of snow/24h. These machines produce a stock of 21,000 m³ of artificial snow for 75 days, thus guaranteeing snow cover in the area starting when the resort opens on 15 December. Snow production will continue throughout the season in order to increase the snow cover at the bottom of the domain. This production makes it possible to offer good sliding conditions in this area late in the season.
The HRS environmental option (heat recovery):
The managers of the station, very concerned about the environmental aspect of their investment, asked us to equip 3 of the 4 machines with our HRS heat restitution device. Thus equipped, WeSnow WS70 consume 95kWh for snowmaking and return < span style=”color: #00b2ff;”>209kWh for heating the following buildings:
CONCLUSION
Super-Besse is the first French ski resort to guarantee snow cover for its lower ski area starting at the opening of the season.
